Chicken and Dumplings — A Tradition for the Holidays

When I think of my favorite meal, I think of Chicken and Dumplings and then I think of my Grandparents. Every Thanksgiving was filled with lots of delicious food but the one thing that always stood out was my Grandparents’ Chicken and Dumplings.

It’s the most perfect comfort food. I learned how to make chicken and dumplings in my Grandparents’ kitchen. Whenever I make it, I am always asked for the recipe. So I thought I would share with you in case you wanted to try something different for the Holidays. Maybe it will end up being a tradition for you as it is for me.

Here are a few tips before I share the recipe:

Chicken StockBe Careful of the Sodium — Please make sure you choose a chicken stock with less sodium. If you do not, end result will be way too salty.

Biscuit Selection is important — Yes, you can make your biscuits from scratch if you like, so feel free to if that is what you choose to do. For me, this recipe is already time consuming on its own so I use store bought biscuit dough. I like the 10 count Buttermilk biscuits from Kroger or Pillsbury. I cut mine into three pieces. Sometimes, I will do a few with just two pieces for some bigger dumplings.

Here is the Recipe! Feel free to leave out the carrots. My Grandparents’ original recipe does not include the carrots. I add them when I want a little bit of color and a veggie. I hope that you enjoy it as much as we do! It’s a family favorite for sure! You can make it for the Holidays or for a Sunday dinner!

Thank you so much for visiting my site. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ“

  1. Sounds so good. My mom and mother in law made dumplings with biscuits. I am for sure going to make some chickie and dumplings this weekend. Just one change for me though. I make what we call sinkers. I make a simple dough, roll it out and cut the dumplings into squares. Then I let them set on the counter and dry out some. After they have set out a bit, I drop them into the hot broth and cook until they are done. Yum Yum!!
